Alton Johnson is a renowned cybersecurity expert, entrepreneur, and tech startup investor who founded Vonahi Security, a pioneering cybersecurity company that revolutionized automated penetration testing. With over a decade of experience as a security consultant and more than 10 industry-related certifications, Alton has helped CISOs at hundreds of organizations ranging from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies solve today's most complex security challenges through innovative, modern-day approaches.

As the Founder and Principal Security Consultant of Vonahi Security, Alton focused on building the future of offensive cybersecurity consulting services through automation. He regularly conducted research to identify ways to help organizations combat ever-changing cyber threats through efficient, cost-effective, and non-traditional security assessments.

Career Journey

Prior to founding Vonahi Security, Alton worked at several large and small cybersecurity consulting firms as a Principal Security Consultant. Throughout his professional career, he performed hundreds of security assessments for organizations ranging from small businesses to Fortune 10 companies, including CVS HQ, Dollar General, Apple, Nintendo, NFL, Groupon, Charlotte Rouse, Chico's, and the Vitamin Shoppe. He is proficient in performing both traditional security assessments, such as network, physical, and application penetration testing, as well as advanced security assessments, including red team engagements.

In 2023, Vonahi Security was successfully acquired by Kaseya, a leading provider of IT management and security software. Under Alton's leadership, the company experienced remarkable growth, expanding from approximately 250 partners to over 3,000 partners, and now serves over 20,000 companies under those managed service providers (MSPs).

Notable Accomplishments

Alton has developed several penetration testing tools and scripts that are used widely within the information security industry. He has developed and published several open-source tools to platforms such as GitHub, Metasploit Framework, as well as Kali Linux (formerly known as Backtrack Linux), all of which are among the most recognized and used tools and operating systems within the information security consulting industry.

The penetration testing tools developed by Alton were written in multiple scripting languages, providing him the ability to quickly and efficiently develop exploits and scripts that can be used for network traffic analysis, protocol/service fuzzing, exploitation, and quick completion of extremely time-consuming network-related tasks.

Current Ventures

Beyond his cybersecurity expertise, Alton is an active tech startup investor and real estate investor, leveraging his entrepreneurial experience and technical knowledge to identify and support promising ventures. He is passionate about mentoring aspiring entrepreneurs and regularly shares his story and insights about entrepreneurship, helping others navigate the challenges of building and scaling technology companies.

Alton has successfully obtained some of the industry's most challenging and respected security certifications, including Offensive Security Certified Expert (OSCE), Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP), as well as eLearnSecurity's Certified Professional Penetration Tester (eCPPT). He regularly attends information security conferences and has spoken at DerbyCon as well as local communities, sharing his expertise and insights with the cybersecurity community.

When not working on cybersecurity initiatives or investment opportunities, Alton enjoys automotive photography, car modification and racing, and playing billiards. His diverse interests reflect his passion for precision, technology, and continuous improvement across all aspects of his life.
